(Found) Need a little help. Read a series back in the seventies that I really enjoyed but I can't remember the title.

All I remember is that one character could do high level math in his head and a blind poet recited his opus while shutting down a run away reactor. I think they may have worn kilts.

The blind poet shutting down a nuclear reactor sounds like one of the stories in Robert Heinlein's Future History series.

Which would make the mathematician Slipstick Libby, but I don't get the story - long time since I read the Heinlein juveniles.

Try 'The green hills of Earth' and 'Misfit', that might well have been in the same collection (though Andrew Jackson Libby was 'Pinky at the time)
Try 'The Past through tomorrow'.

The stories would be in either TGHOE or The Man Who Sold The Moon. 35+ years since I read these.

Having some trouble with the kilts.
