I’m looking for a book or story I heard about years ago (10 ish?) at a fan convention. It was on a panel about language in fiction. The main characters were a bossy boss type person and her assistant. They visited a planet that everyone communicated in pairs one spoke and one verified the truth or something like that. The bossy boss person kept being annoyed because they would all look to her assistant for verification.
I put this on my to read list but lost the paper. So I unfortunately only have a vaguely remembered plot told by someone else. I would love any help in finding it.
