Hi, I read this ages ago (and I'm old, this could have been written anywhere from 1990 onwards) It's set in India, the alien ship lands, the alien is totally disinterested in Earth, he's obsessed with politics back home. The US is desperate to communicate with him, but India won't let them. And then there is something about viruses - they communicate via viruses and are shocked and dismayed when so many humans die of them... No idea as to title or author. Any idea of what this book is?
