Discussion thread -- August 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Congrats to stilllearning! Thanks to Mosaix for my stealth vote! Already looking forward to the new month and a new story to work on.

Congrats, StilLearning!!

Many thanks for the votes nixie and Coast! And thanks also to those who listed or mentioned my story. I won't lie, the genre left me a little stranded this month, so it was good to see my story about a squid boy worked.

Another win for StillLearning. If he keeps this up he will have to change his avatar name. Well done.

Congratulations StilLearning, a fine story. It made me think of how often we can't see what's right in front of us.

Congratulations, StilLearning!

I don't think anyone made a guess in the thread about the title of my piece, but Parson hit the nail on the head with his comment about Jewish grandmothers -- "Well, somebody has to make the matches" is a line from Fiddler on the Roof, just before the daughters sing "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" which is about the community matchmaker finding husbands for them, which in my world has been taken over by the traffic lights.

And the benevolent traffic signals come out again with matchmaking thanks to Shyrka and Ursa for the further shortlistings!

Calliopenjo, I don't know if I'm reading it wrong, but there seems a distinct whiff of apology in your post. If I'm right, then beware of getting a slap for putting yourself down! (We have been now to SLAP very hard anyone who knocks his/her own writing!) There's absolutely nothing for which you need to apologise, and certainly no need for you to promise anything to us. You sound more than a little upset at not having had good luck lately, and I sympathise, but luck is terribly fickle, as we've all experienced, and no doubt you are due for a turn of fortune's wheel soon. In the meantime, if you wanted feedback on your entries -- which I know for myself can be an invaluable exercise when it comes to writing better work -- then we have this thread Improving our 75 Word Stories -- READ FIRST POST. Perhaps put this latest entry up there and see if there's anything other members can help you with.

Elventine -- on the 1st September, so not long to wait!

So when is the new on going up? This looks like fun!
As it should be - however useful the exercise can be for your writing, if it's not fun, don't do it.

Yes, new theme/genre at the beginning of each month (there has to be an interval to allow for tie breaks.) Enjoy!

And congarats to StilLearning (don't stop). Hey, something's wrong - somebody I voted for wins?!

Congrats StilLearning, well deserved! :)

Thanks as always to our esteemed reviewers, and those who gave me a mention.

Ahem, I just did a fist pump and shouted 'yes' at work. Thank you ever so much everyone, I really struggled with the theme AND the genre this month, and after reading some of the other stories I reallly didn't rate my chances. I'll be online tonight with my shortlist.

Thanks to Glen, Cory, Coast and Mad Alice for the mentions and especially to Phyrebrat for the vote. Always great to get mentions and votes when the competition is so tough. Well done everyone, especially StilLearning!

Congrats StillLearning! I feel horrible. I missed the voting for the first time. I had it in my head I could vote monday, and I had a very hectic weekend.

Also, I had a 0-0 this month, so a bad 75 for me all around

Get out the whips for Calli. Enough of this slap business. The whip, the whip. Or call in Jo. The hardest slapper on Chrons.

Let me shoot 'em... pppllleeeeaaaassssseeeee.... Just the once!

Maybe I'm a masochist?

ZZzzaaaaaasppppppPPP - You asked for it mate.

Well done Stillearning, who I won't shoot today, but only today mind you, so make the best of it.
