Scientist transfers brain to immortal robot body that runs on cosmic energy

Hello folks,

I read this paperback sometime around 1970.

I seem to remember that the main character was a scientist whose wife and child were killed by evil men that were after his inventions. In his distressed state he goes ahead and transfers his brain to a robot body that is capable of utilizing cosmic energy as its power source - essentially becoming immortal.

At one point, I believe he gets trapped underground for eons.

I realize that isn't much to go on. I appreciate any help you all can provide.

"Getting trapped underground for eons" reminds me of a plot point in the book, "Anton York, Immortal." AY and his wife are trapped underground and are tunneling their way out, and encounter an immortal from Atlantis, who had been trapped underground by an enemy.
