Many years ago, I was in barbershop ( long gone) And in the magazine rack was a comic book, I don't remember the title or the comic book company .The story. A religious madman predicted that the solar system would break up and the earth would suffer catastrophe and is self would be destroyed in a few short years. Things star happening as he predicts The planets in the solar system start exploding and drifting off one by one each one enveloped in a strange energy halo as it happens. A group of scientists and engineers begin building giant space Arc shaped like a giant sphere to escape the doomed earth which is beginning to have quakes and disasters. Then a strange thing happens to the moon, It split open and from the crumbling moon there emerges a giant phoenix. The planets and moons are like eggs and no doubt the earth has one that about to emerge. They get ready to launch and at that moment the cult leader launches an attack on the ark. He belives that man deserves to go extinct that salvation is only achieved through death. In the battle, the cult leader and his men are defeated and killed but so are many of the ark inhabitants. A few manage to survive. They launch the ship achieves escape and just as they do the Earth Splits open and from it comes a an even Bigger phoenix which leaves the earth behind. Then the the Sun starts to die . The survivors now plot a new destiny for a humanity in the stars. I could be mistake n But I think it might be based on Poul Anderson story, Im not sure ?

Is anybody heard or read this one?

This sounds like a graphic adaptation of a story reprinted in Asimov's 'Before the Golden Age' anthology. [One quick check later] It's Jack Williamson's 'Born of the Sun' (originally 1934), although ISFDB doesn't mention a graphic version.

Thanks.:)

In which case it must have been Starstream #3: http://oldcomicreviews.blogspot.be/2008/10/starstream-3.html It seems someone has scanned and uploaded the issue (the link is in the above link) - though when I tried it didn't work.

You can also download it here: https://kat.cr/starstream-classic-science-fiction-comics-t2241304.html but please note: I did not try it from that site so cannot vouch for it.

Artist was Don Heck who did the early Iron Man stories, did a run on The Avengers, and a bunch of other stuff.

Sounds like a fun story.

A nice collaborative effort here, then! :) Baylor's detailed description (and clearly excellent memory!) did the trick. Sadly, those scans were available from Megaupload, so are long gone.

I read the comic only once about 40 years ago. I never forgot the story . I didn't know it was based on a Jack Williamson story.:)

I would love to see this one reissued.:)
