Not with a Bang but with a Wheeze

“Stupid humans!” The thought bubbled unbidden and unregretted by Scrogg. Humans fought with worthless armies and atomic weapons. Scrogg was directing a microscopic Von Neumann machine invasion. Human lungs were the fuel.

-------

Jose wheezed painfully.

“Jose, you’re really wheezing.” observed Marlene .

“I don’t think it’s anything serious.” Jose gasped. Then he turned blue and collapsed.

Marlene screamed and then she wheezed.

Humanity stopped breathing before they detected the invasion.

Scrogg preened. Victory was glorious.

No Sorcery Please, We’re Aliens

I’m sick of invading. All those rules: don’t appear godlike; use force the invaded will understand.... Is it my fault we’re so advanced?

And now for this campaign, Sol III, they’ve sent me Fisg, a public relations consultant obsessed with a planet’s ideas of how aliens might invade.

It’s no wonder I feel nauseous, what with my new flagship spinning its tinfoil frame through the atmosphere. Flying saucers, indeed.

Bloody spin doctors...!

The Aliens came in a comet from the East.

Cities emptied as the populations fled but it was no use. The invaders caught them on the roads.

Terrifying and unstoppable, they left behind only emptiness, silence and bodies.

Eventually, humanity rallied, they fought back as best they could

And in the end, humanity triumphed, but never entirely.

The Black Death is with us today

Heroes' Last Stand

Chip Hunter and Agnes Drake watched in horror as the rocketships exploded in the distance. The saucers hovered menacingly over the falling wreckage, and Chip sighed. “Well, this is it, this is the end.”

“Chip?”

“Agnes, tough as it is for men of my generation to say this but, I’m falling in love with you.”

“Chip!”

“Babydoll, I think you’re real swell, and since the world is ending well, I, reckon we should...”

“Oh... Chip...”

War of the Words

“We come in peace.”

The aliens spoke only four words. We never stopped talking. Till the bombs fell.

“They could be telling the truth.”

.....“We can’t trust them.”

“We can’t risk retaliation.”

.....“Ready the nukes. Destroy the pacifists.”

“Ready the ICBMs. Destroy the hawks.”

..........“We are the militia of the Heralds of God’s Arrival. We’ll destroy anyone who launches weapons.”

“Fire.”

.....“Fire.”

..........“Fire.”

The aliens came in peace. They didn’t kill us. We killed ourselves.

Lebensraum

'We come in peace' was what they said
When first the alien race we met
Their countenances seemed benign
But in their minds were cruel designs

With welcome smile and open hand
We bid their starships free to land
The bounties of our world did share
Though of their envious eyes unware

Until their guns upon us turned
People slaughtered, cities burned
The scourge of all of Outer Space
Our conquerers, the Human Race
