#1 Batman in the Spring of 1940 . Before 1940 Batman appeared in a mystery or detective comic but he was so popular we got his own mag and the joker was his first supervillian.

Not to mention the batman originally killed the joker by breaking his neck, its only later comics took the stance that "batman does not kill" - but the original death of the joker as we first saw him was echoed in Millers Dark knight graphic novel, but this time he breaks his own neck after batso fails to complete the job
