Just wondering what people are thinking in regards to season 2:

The end of season 1 left us with Jack going with the Doctor in the Tardis.

Is this it for Jack?

Will he return?

Is he to be replaced?

I dont think so, but the show really needs a charator or group that Torchwood answer to. Without them, it seems that the group (Tourchwood) are a power to themselves. They need to be made answerable fotr there actions/decisions!!!

Now that would make for a better show.

Re: Torchwood Series 2

He definitely returns, that much is certain from interviews and leaks (for example, the next series of TW is supposed to have an episode showing Jack, rather than a saggy welsh behind), but what will happen in the series... I'd guess that Bilis will play a bigger part in it somehow, and happenings in Dr. Who will set some sort of scene for it all.

As for the group they can answer to... maybe the Dr. himself will make an appearance and scold them? Or aliens will invade, take over the world, and imprison them for their actions.

Re: Torchwood Series 2

After the events at the end of series one, world governments would demand that the British government shut Torchwood down permanently. A team of bureaucrats and army would be dispatched but would be unable to locate the secret base. Meanwhile the body of the Pizza delivery girl would be discovered, and a new prison will be required just to hold all the Weevils that now inhabit Cardiff. The Pterodactyl escapes. Rhys regains his memory and strangles Gwen. Owen visits the STD clinic. Bilis is found out to really be Jack when he is over 1000 years old.

I don't why this is still being made, but I will probably still watch it out of some perverse reason liking it for being so bad.

Re: Torchwood Series 2

Likewise.
It's kinda like a punchbag workout for my inner critic. :D

I do think that being accountable to someone would help matters, but I get the horrible suspicion that the writers don't actually think Torchwood have much to be accountable for.
Based on interviews with various members of the writing team, they actually seem to believe that Gwen is a strong, upstanding character, that Jack is a nobel leader and that the team are a shining example of a covert intelligence unit in action.

So if they did write in a "controlling third party", it would probably just be there to pat the team on the head and give them another Pteradactyl.

Which is only fair, coz the poor Pteradactyl is the only member of the team who currently isn't "getting any" on a regular basis....

Won't need to. Gwen or Jack'll be up for it, I've no doubt!:p

Re: Torchwood Series 2

But, unfortunately, Jack will realise that Ptero's aren't his thing (it's not a very butch example of the species), Gwen will drug it so it doesn't remember she's a lousy sh*g, and the poor flying lizard will try to re-open the rift to get it's T-Rex lover back from 20 million years ago, which will disturb Ianto and Owen from their game of stopwatch strip scrabble, causing them to rush out of the lounge, shocking Tosh, whose cunning computer program for tracking foxy alien life forms will suddenly reprogram itself and only register weevils. Oh, and Gwen will have a really bad hair day!

Then RTD will go back to writing metro-sexual teen angst, and we'll find a crew of real SF writers who will SHAKE THE STAFF AT TORCHWOOD BY THEIR SILLY NECKS TILL THEY GET A LIFE!!!!!!*breathes heavily*

Re: Torchwood Series 2

:D I actually quite enjoyed Torchwood in a morbid way! Like Coolhand says, it's good for the inner critic. It's a bit like watching Star Trek TNG for me; undemanding, candy-floss fun!

I just have issues with the touchy-feely-ness of a show which promised to be quite gritty, and ended up as Hollyoaks with aliens.

That's it!
You've put your finger on it! That exactly what this show is!
Best-Torchwood-summery-EVER!

I don't know why you're all so down on it. I really enjoyed the episodes that I saw. I thought that the writing was excellent, acting good and art direction well thought out.

Now, now, Dave. Wocket is new here (Hi, Wocket!) and hasn't had time to get acquainted with the general views on Torchwood that you have, and me.Or Coolhand. Or HappyHippo. Or VALEN, or PTeppic, or Lenny, or......well, just about everyone!:D
After all, cogitationis poenam nemo patitur!

Re: Torchwood Series 2

Don't lump me in with the playa-haters. I love Torchwood! Really, I do.

Re: Torchwood Series 2

Ok, so i admit it's early days. I've only seen the first 6 episodes, and really liked them. They where different fom the ussual american style sci-fi crap you get on aussie TV.

..so what you're saying is that plot just goes downhill from here?

And as to all the sex...well, I've work in offices with that much going on, it was considered normal. :p

...and an a big adult fan fic reader so it's almost as if the writers wanted to do an adult fan fiction crossover before the fan fic was even thought of. (boy watch porn, girls read fan fic)

To be honest I quite enjoyed it.

But the silly & down right shocking series ending was far to much for me (struggling but no spoliers)

Re: Torchwood Series 2

Don't get me wrong - I did enjoy it, at least while watching it for the first time!
It was only when it had finished, and I sat back and thought about the episode that the plot-holes, changed premises and sometime really silly things came to mind, like the security aspects, which just piled up, week after week.
And I'll definitely watch the second series, as well. It's just so frustrating when I think what could have been made from the raw materials.:(

Re: Torchwood Series 2

Ooh! Ooh! More Torchwood discussions!

Welcome to the Chronicles Wocket. :) You’ll it a fun, thoughtful place to be, even when opinions on things conflict.

I actually think it's cool that we can get some Torchwood fans like Lenny and yourself into these forums as up till now it's been mostly full of people who either enjoy it as daft, silly entertainment or people like myself who hate it so much that watching has become something of a masochistic pleasure. But quite frankly, the Torchwood forum needs MORE people who can stand up for it in the debate, so if you can recruit even more Torchwood fans to the Chronicles, that would really spice things up.

BTW, Wocket, that avatar of yours rocks!

Stand up for it? Against an ocean of non-believers?!

Yay!
