B-Movies And Awful Films

We had it on one of those "Sci-Fi Classics" [sic] DVD collections of poor quality copies of public domain stuff. The serial format is pretty wearying when watched all at once.

...and pretty incomprehensible when edited into a 'feature' as so many of them were. Several hundred minutes of action condensed into 80 or so minutes. The only one I can remember seeing that didn't look fecking awful was The Lost Jungle (1934) which played like a run of the mill jungle adventure yarn; it was only after seeing it I found out it was a 200+ minute, 12 part serial trimmed to a 68 minute run time.

The lead in the serial Ray Crash Corrigan never won a best actor award . His last acting role was as the monster in the 1958 film It The Terror from Beyond Space :D

The Astounding She Monster 1957 This begs the questions of if you're an advanced civilization trying to establish relations with planet Earth. why would you send an emissary who emits deadly to the touch radiation? Inspire of mususndertdnaings why did the emissary continue the violence and killing ? And wouldn't it have been more practical for the emissary to have shown up at the UN instead of out in the wilderness?

The musical score in the film was both wretched and aggravating to listen to , sadly it was reused The Beast of Yucca Flats. staring Tor Johnson comes to mind.

One Million Years BC was hollywood at its finest, skating over historical timelines to show cavemen butchering dinos, and beautiful cavewomen fluttering their eyelashes..:)

The Thing From Another World (1951) was also entertaining, they discovered a ship under the ice and a scientist says "Who knows what secrets await us?", but after they unscientifically use thermite bombs to get at it his dreams go up in smoke-

And even the one million date has a problem with regard to both Homo sapiens and Neanderthal . Neither branch of mankind existed one million years ago . Home Erectus a more primitive human few other ancient lines humans existed and none them looked like Raquel Welch or Jon Richardson.;) And yes the Dina Extinct was one the biggest in Earth History but The Permian/Triassic extinction event which occurred around 252 million years ago wiped out 90 percent of the species living on planet Earth.

One million years BC is also a remake of the 1940 film of the same name with Victor Mature , Carol Landis and Lon Chaney Jr

And in 1990 you have a sort of remake with comedy film Caveman staring Ring Star , and Babra Bachand cast of hilarious silly Stop Motion Dinos

I can still watch the film Raquel and suspend disbelief , I think of this film as Alternate world where Cavemen and Dinosaurs coexist.

The Plant Man was played by James Arnes who in the 1954 film Them stared opposite James Whitmore . James Arness is actor Peter Graves brother.

The Giant Gila Monster 1959 Totally silly but very entertaining giant creature movie.:D

But the songs! The worst songs of any movie I know. They're excruciating!

(There are three songs, but one has faded entirely from my memory, so it must not be quite as bad. The other two are permanent nails in my head. Listen if you dare!)

THE THING remake (1982) was also entertaining, but Russel made the mistake of only giving the Thing a too-brief squirt of flamethrower.
I was almost screaming at him- "KEEP THE FLAME GOING TIL ITS ONLY A CINDER" but he didn't, and as a result the it was only singed and not properly toasted to death-

PS- it also might have been worth trying to reason with it by saying "We are not your enemies, we know you just want to build a ship to get back to your planet, so if you leave us alone we'll leave you alone"
