Is there room for the little guy, the unknown author, the small publisher, the spec fic magazine, etc., in the big leagues?

Yes, eposting, and epublishing are awesome ways to the get stuff out, but isn't the money still in print? And if you make it into print, is it all just by chance what makes money and what doesn't? How can the little guy stay afloat?
 
At the moment i'd say it is fairly difficult ...BUT web publishing is a great way to get yoour name 'out there' and move you into the world of the printed novel.
