Discussion Thread -- September 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

  • Bowler1 - not very specific on what kind of weapons used, could be anything…

Yeah, not like me that!
And thank you Ihe for the mention too.

Mentions, Wrurer, Chrispy (who is mastering the poetic versions), Culhwch, Parson and Starbeast.
It came down to two for me, Perp and Moonbat and I had to go with my first gut instinct this time. Perp buddy, you got my vote and hard luck Moonbat.

55 Posts this month and many of them new members, who I like to think of as innocent moving targets (the more experienced know who to avoid on here (not me, clearly, as I'm very friendly)). Welcome to the shooting range... ahem... Chrons, the most friendly corner of the internet, with the most RAY GUNS too.

Thanks for the vote Bowler, a great way to end another hard day. Not been around much st the moment, a mixture of work (ain't it always) and things going on in life.

I'm determined to keep doing the challenges even if that's almost all the interaction I do.

Lots of neat tales and twisted ideas. Took a while to knock it down to my favorite 12 and winner:

My Long List, Short List and **** Favorite ****

  1. Thus Flesh Betrays Us - Victoria Silverwolf
  2. The Play – Elventine
  3. Lucio Argento presenta: ORRORE DEI PAGLIACCI – Starbeast
  4. Death of Fear of Failure of Fear of Death - Heijan Xavier
  5. **** Old Wood – LittleStar ****
  6. Korean Stage Fright – Parson
  7. School Play - Justin Swanton
  8. Leave It to the Psychoneers – Ihe
  9. Not Your Local Theatre – ratsy
  10. First and Last Contact – hopewrites
  11. Stage Fright – Moonbat
  12. Life’s but a Walking Shadow, or A Tale Told by an Idiot - The Judge

I'm determined to keep doing the challenges even if that's almost all the interaction I do.

That's plenty of interaction for me and I loved the idea of a funky mars landing, so see ya for the next challenge.

Your welcome Parson - at this point I'd normally give a friendly someone a friendly blast from my RAY GUNS, but I think I'd go straight to hell if I blast Parson.

Still... the temptation is there....

(Picture of Parson smiling from ear to ear!) Thanks for the short listing @johnnyjet !

Edit: Just looked at the current results of the contest.... And everybody's still in it. The vote which seem a bit light, but maybe not due to the length of the voting has 2 votes leading with a many way tie going.

It really is very spread out! The breakaway horses should start to run any minute now.

The longest shortlist I've had in ages -- but one of the best turnouts we've had in a while, too, so I guess that's ok!

First, huge thanks to StilLearning for the stealth vote! :D

Ashleyne -- The Robutler
Wruter -- The Phantom of the Space Opera
mosaix -- All's Well that Ends Well
Starbeast -- Lucio Argento Presenta...
Droflet -- Walking Man
Culhwch -- Merely Players
AJB -- Discord
*Heijan Xavier -- Death of Fear...*
Shyrka -- The Final Curtain
Vaz -- A Birth...
Parson -- Korean Stage Fright
Justin Swanton -- School Play
Perp -- Posterior Posterity
ratsy -- Not Your Local Theater

HazelRah -- A Sceduled Return
DEO -- Victoria's Secret Identity
WordWarrior -- Space Beckoned
TJ -- Life's But a Walking Shadow...
StilLearning -- Checkmate

And a special mention to Elventine for "(Edward had been eaten suddenly)" :D

You know, what I like about this challenge is not who the winner will be (my guess there'll be more than one) but that so many people have written stuff good enough to be enjoyed by others.

great turnout and some great stories but... personally i found it hard to find the theme in a few of them.

shortlist:

Thus Flesh Betrays Us -- Victoria Silverwolf
The Play. -- Elventine
Ladies And Gentlemen… -- reiver33
Lucio Argento presenta: ORRORE DEI PAGLIACCI -- Starbeast
Walking Man -- Droflet
Broadcast -- Coast
In Officio Apparatus -- johnnyjet
...Merely Players -- Culhwch
Discord -- AJB
Death of Fear of Failure of Fear of Death -- Heijan Xavier
School Play -- Justin Swanton
Posterior Posterity -- Perpetual Man
Not your local theatre -- ratsy
Stage Fright -- Moonbat
Victoria’s Secret Identity -- David Evil Overlord
Our Doubts are Traitors -- TheDustyZebra

and out of that longish shortlist, i went for @Moonbat. you had me at excretion mandibles.

Announcement:

There are only fifteen and a half hours left in which to vote.

Cheers for the mention, @TheDustyZebra. It was looking that I might strike out completely this month - I have a feeling I may have strayed too far from the brief this time.

Short List:

Ladies & Gentlemen, @reiver33
Frightful Performance, @VinceK
School Play, @Justin Swanton
Stage Fright, @Moonbat
@WordWarrior
Someday, @Mad Alice

Honourable Mentions:

Scars, @Cat's Cradle - The soldier's desperation is so raw. Heart-breaking.
Broadcast, @Coast - Because I had the same idea and this is an excellent execution of it.
...Merely Players, @Culhwch - Highly enjoyable with a fine punchline.

My vote went to @Cathbad's Thinking in the end, thanks to its clever use of the theme. The paralysing fear of the ship's captain is something many of us can relate to, I'm sure.

Thanks so much Moonbat and TDZ!!! Was having a tough morning until now. Nothing like having the respect of your talented and passionate peers!
:):D:lol:
