What Anime and Animation are you currently watching?

Mashle. In a world where everyone has magical powers, a powerless orphan is raised outside the city by an oldman, who trains him physically.

First of all, this is a comedy anime, through and through, and it’s been a while since I saw one as funny as this one. It’s a shonen jump battle anime where the comedy is the main feature, and the comedy really works here. It skirts around absurdity.

As the Canadian lad from Mother’s Basement put so well, this is “One Punch Man goes to Hogwarts”, and I’ll keep watching.

Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage. Second season of the amazing Ousama Ranking.

The first episode feels like a filler episode, but it shows that Kage and Bochi are still as benevolent as anyone can be. This duo lifts you up.

It was a nice warmup; I’m eager to see a new adventure, and the battles that come with it.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride S2. Chise, a human who has been sold as a slave to a mage who has an animal skull for his head to be his bride, enrolls in a magical academy.

This anime is top-notch fantasy. The worldbuilding and design of the fantastical beings is awesome. They mix fantasy with the real world really well: it’s as though fantastical beings and the real world are naturally intertwined; as if myth and reality work together; and magical beings are a part of everyday life (even if you can’t see them).

The animation is still top-notch. There was a scene with cats that left me speechless.

The first episode was very self-contained (caterpillar woman with gigantic breasts aside), but I’m eager to see what this has in store.

Hakone-chan 3.5 minute episodes, cute, funny, and already ended. Hakone-chan is a hot spring deity, who appears when the guy mistakenly drops the manju in the wrong place. She is a child - sized, but has adult mind. funny things happen.

I was searching for magic girls, and found something else: Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. A high school guy lives with his mother and sister, who are usually drunk. I think they are his mom & sister. it is funny.

Oh, this nerdy guy just happens to be close friends with the coolest girl in school. She has a secret: she likes anime & manga; something the other students loathe.

Now that Netflix will cease DVD rental next Sept., I must double my NF DVD plan, & give them priority of streaming. I have about 100 DVDs in my Queue, & hope to finish the Simpsons sets already on the Queue, those with s3 & 4 of THE MAN FROM UNCLE, which, though it was not part of my youth, I do want to finish the series. Also have another anime series, but offhand, cannot recall it.

That's a long-ass queue! And here I thought I had a lot of work with my external hard drive.

Ergo Proxy. A detective pairs up with an immigrant to solve a series of murders committed by robots infected with a virus that makes them self-aware.

I’m coming back to this after dropping some years ago. It’s not the most pleasant thing to watch; you really have to want it and put in the hours. It’s very cult. But it pays off if you pay attention. Some call it the most philosophical anime of all time, and I agree in part. This delves deep in the theme that it chose to explore: identity.

I like the cyberpunk-ish worldbuilding. After an environmental outbreak, humanity lives in domed cities. Those who venture outside the domes have to have a desertic world and get infected with diseases. The protagonist is some kind of blade runner, and she has a robot assistant attached to her.

I watched the first DVD of this after a recommendation on here many years ago. I was thinking the other day I might look at it again.

As for me, I'm trying Konosuba, after seeing it mentioned a few times. It's an easy-going, amusing watch with some fun characters and ideas, but six episodes in, there's not much sign of an interesting overall arc yet.

Konosuba!'s point is just to make you laugh. I don't think you should be overanalyzing it.

Demon Slayer. I watched a few episodes of this a couple of years back but quit when really annoying Scared Guy shows up. Going back to it, he gets a bit less annoying and Boar Guy is very entertaining, so I'll probably stick with it now.

Tanjiro, the blondie? Yeah he goes from most hated to best character very quickly!

I strongly recommend Kimetsu; it just keeps going better and better at every season.

It is the blond guy, but Tanjiro is the main (dark-haired) character. (I looked it up: the blond is Zenitsu.)

Forgot to say earlier, I also re-watched the only season of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash a couple of weeks ago. I love some aspects of this anime, but it could have done with a hard edit: the pace is just too slow sometimes. I also read the first light novel, thinking I might carry on with those to find out where the story went, but it wasn't that great and then I learned there are 19 volumes (!!) and it doesn't look like the author is trying to get the story actually concluded.

Oh yes, I got the names mixed up o_O . It is Zenitsu indeed.

I like Grimgar. Its take on death is unique in the Isekai genre.

I've watched all that's available on Netflix, up to the end of the Entertainment Distrcit Arc (I'm a bit confused as to whether this is S2 or S3). There's a lot to like about it -- the animation is stunning, the demons' backstories often moving, and I laughed out loud at the Muscle Mice -- but I got bored of the long fights. I'd rather have much shorter fights with real stakes (such as in Grimgar) than extended, repetitive (if visually stunning) combat sequences that leave all sense of reality behind. Especially when a character appears to die and then pulls a reason out of their backside as to why they didn't.

Started watching The Great Mulligan on NF, Two, count 'em 2 episodes are all I could take, for now. This guy by sheer chance saves planet Earth from an invasion by extraterrestrials, and, on a devastated planet, lacking clean water and electricity, they make him President of the USA.

O.k., this is humorous, but not funny. If not for the existence of actually funny programs, I might continue watching this. However, I have Paradise P.D. whose current season, I have yet to watch. It is not only funny, but, very funny. Disgusting, grotesque, nasty, but funny.
