Plot: A meteorite lands which is actually a probe that contains AI ambassadors and other alien AI who "hitched a ride" in the probe. The technological advances involved turn this into a political power grab from all sides, with the main character using her VR layers to track approaching enemies and eventually in a sinking transport, some group entity is able to link with her implants and freeze her eye to the glass and cut the glass with a laser.
