I just saw a few old Robot Chicken episodes, one in which 5 or so beam down to a desolate planet, & only the red shirt guy brings a gun; & the other in which McCoy gives prostate exams. But for me, the Futurama parodies were the best (to my knowledge). While I liked the one with the voices of Kirk & co., Melvar their best fan ever, & such, the one that I liked best was where Fry & Zoidberg fought in an arena & a close match for the combat music was heard.

The SNL skit is a classic. Also, the version put out by the XXX crowd is entertaining if you skip the dirty stuff. And generally, you're better off doing so.

Can anything really beat Galaxy Quest?

But yes, Futurama seemed to have a Star Trek reference every week. Star Trek is in everything, even otherwise mainstream films and TV that needed a pop culture reference.

It is generally code for "geek" and usually used in a way that suggests the writers don't know geeks. Copious "Beam me up, Scotties" and such.

The most savvy writing I saw was in an episode of Leverage where Hardison, the hacker, bemoaning his lack of proper computing tools, says he's trying to accomplish his goals with "stone knives and bearskins." Subtle and on point.

You're welcome, Galactic Journey. kugkkg Though I was just a little kid in the 1960's I watched TOS in reruns for years.

So, I looked on youtube for the clip, but all that came up, was a more recent SNL TOS skit. As it was not what I sought, I did not bother to watch it; it might have been funny, but except for a few skits, I stick with the founding cast.

That's fair. I am looking forward to getting to SNL in 13 years. Actually, I'm looking forward to lots of things.. but if there's anything I've learned since starting the Journey, it's that there's always interesting stuff in any era. :)

I like Quark, but is it a TOS parody? I recently watched the series, but, other than the basics of a spaceship & its crew--

In series 4 of The IT Crowd the last episode Reynholm v Reynholm we see a bit of Douglas Reynholm's self produced porn film based on Star Trek. Not a lot there, but extremely funny. I can't find a link to a video online.

Aaaah! The IT Crowd is a sitcom! I really tried to watch just that one episode, but the constant outbursts of canned laughter turn me off!

It's the same on Big Bang Theory.
But the worst part is when they start laughing about a second before the joke.
