hello,

I just joined and I would like you all to tell me what you think of my ideas for these series. Do you think they are original enough? Which ones your favorite and which one should I do first? i am 18 years old and an aspiring writer. All of these ideas are fantasy novels. these summaries are brief so if you want more info please let me know.

Idea 1

Follows a girl whose family is killed as she plots revenge against the empire. She disguises herself as a boy and is conscripted into the army where she and an officer of the army discover a plot against the emperor. Meanwhile a boy trapped in a monastery begins to have dreams about a great storm of a resurrected dark lord entering the world again. The three of them must stop a civil war and defeat the dark lord.
Genre: Fantasy
type: YA
Planned books: 4

Idea 2
This book series follows the Imperial Family as a plot against the Emperor works. Demonic hordes are entering the world as the Barriers that hold them weaken and religious strife tears apart the land.
Genre: Fantasy
Type: Adult
Planned books: 3

Idea 3

Set during the Roman Empire but with dragons. Sort of like Temeraire but set in an unknown time. I am thinking Punic Wars but don't know for sure yet.

Idea 4

Set in a world with the industry of the Napoleonic Wars will start by following a noble family as their fortunes rise and fall. A revolution occurs and will force them to leave the country. The Church Militante is trying to find the remains of the Deadgod and purify humanity with him.
Genre: fantasy
Type: Military Fantasy
Planned books: 5

I have many more but these are my favorite ideas. Please tell me what you think.

They all sound interesting, and I'm sure you would bring something new and fresh to all of them, so there's no need to worry too much about originality -- even a well-worn trope can read as exciting if it's written well and with spirit.

As for which of these ideas you should write first, choose the one which most inspires you to write, and plunge straight in! I always tell new aspiring writers that it's not nearly as simple as it looks to write a whole novel, but the most important thing is to have enthusiasm -- and second is a willingness to work hard and keep learning -- which will take you over all the lumps and problems that will crop up as you learn your craft.

And you've started well by coming here to get advice. I hope you find lots here to help and inspire you. Welcome to the Chrons!

I am more intrigued by idea 3 and 4. The search for the remains of the Deadgod caught my eye the most.

Yep. Idea 3 sounds best to me. Write what you're most enthusiastic about but most of all, enjoy yourself.

And welcome to the forum. :)

A great (or lousy) story could be constructed out of any of them. The plot dynamics, character and details are what will make any of them good. Which one do you think you could do your best work under?
