Another long lost story from at least 30 years ago.

It concerns a Terran Interplanetary Survey team arriving on a new planet with a view to assessing and preparing for colonists.

I believe that it may even have started with something like "Nothing in the galaxy could stop a Terran Interplanetary Survey Team" before going on to the inevitable demonstration of the hubris and incorrect nature of this boast.

The team deploys according to their well established procedures and, despite a few early problems, all seems to be going well before the aggregation of small errors snowballs into an eventual reluctant admission that they have finally met their match (part of the difficulty was that the whole planet seemed to be adapting to their methods, I think).

There are some similarities to a story by Lem, but this is not the one.

Hi

Just revisited Deathworld synopsis on Amazon andI remeber these. This is not the one I was looking for though.

Anyone got any other suggestions?
