TV is a big market these days with all the youth oriented shows - Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, and Charmed. Everyone is getting a chance for some national exposure. More avenues for style, as well, are opening up with such new shows as Dark Angel and Witchblade. And bands like DV find they can pursue these areas of exposure now more easily. Jymm states for the record, "We're easy! We'd love to be on any show, anytime!" Cami agrees, "Exposure is good as long as they spell your name right!" Well, they do have their priorities! Steve caps it off, "Yeah, the more opportunities to get the music out there the better, definitely." In the same vein, LA bands are happening, Velvet Chain, Nerf Herder and Darling Violetta plus others featured on the show, are not as obscure names as they may have been 3 years ago. Jymm agrees that both shows, Buffy and Angel, have had a lot to do with that. "Absolutely! The exposure and name association is really valuable to any young band.

No rivalry here! "I think DV are great.
We've always enjoyed playing with them,
and not only do we like their music,
we like them as people, too."
We don't have the luxury (or curse as it may be) of major label backing, so these shows are a great way to get music out to people!" Steve feels the same, "Yup. No question about it, we're grateful for the opportunity and the exposure and the tremendous reaction we've gotten from the fans."
Much can be said within the last 10 years; that music has seen the biggest change. There is no longer just two or three popular styles of music out there, there are literally dozens to choose from. Does DV see the direction of music in general going in a new direction? Jymm doesn’t think so, "I don't really like when music has a direction. I think that music should always have something for everyone. Sometimes I want intelluctual singer-songwriter fare and other times I just want to jump up and down and tear stuff up. I can only say that whatever makes the record labels the most money is what we'll be getting more of. That's all they really care about." Steve thinks that, "music will always be changing and always be the same, however the method of getting it, i.e. downloading it or whatever, that's where the changes will come. We've yet to see that really become viable, but we will, to the benefit or detriment of bands like us who do it all ourselves without a major label's support/interference." Are kids looking for more mature music, something to sink their teeth into (no pun intended... okay well, maybe) or do they pretty much still want to just mindlessly enjoy what's out there? "It depends on the kid," feels Cami. "I think it depends on the time of day for some people (like me)," reflects Jymm. "I like stuff on pop radio as much as stuff on public radio. As long as it makes you feel."
DV admits they're fans of the fans.
And then there’s Steve, always insightful, always full of depth, "God I hope they're getting sick of bubble gum. Britneys and the boy bands have a short shelf life, they get in, then cash in before their audience grows up and discovers sex and drugs. Then they come to us." (laugh) I love this guy!
There can’t be enough great things said about a band that takes its listener to the extreme and back. And for DV they do this in all their music. Whether they just want to rock you out or put you in a space surrounded by a haunting melody, the talent that is Darling Violetta is rich with encompassing textures, rhythms and a blend of sweat and aspiration that only comes in the gifted and talented! This unique band is a must see, a must buy and has a future worthy of a 247 year old vampire! So what are the future plans for Darling Violetta? Jymm tells us, "More recording, touring at some point, comedy, tragedy, Behind the Music style shenanigans!" You can never have enough shenanigans! "More and better music and meeting new people," insists Cami. "Spreading the DV word!" And we just couldn’t leave without a final comment from Steve as to his future plans for DV . . . "World domination. Nothing less."
