HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - "X" still marks the spot for Lucy Lawless, whose hit series "Xena: Warrior Princess" ended its run this summer.

The actress has now signed on for a multi-episode gig on the upcoming season of "The X-Files." She is set to appear on the show's first two episodes. There's a chance she could do more episodes, though nothing's been decided yet.

The show's season premiere is Nov. 4. Details regarding the Lawless character are being kept under wraps.

"We're thrilled to have an opportunity to work with Lucy, whose work we've admired for a long time," said "X-Files" executive producer Frank Spotnitz. "We think we've found an interesting and unexpected way to have her join the family."

"interesting and unexpected"........that's gotta make fun viewing! :D

*L* I agree. Here's more info:

From The NZ Herald Online

Xena to double her cult kudos with stint on spooky 'X-Files'
01.08.2001 By LOUISA CLEAVE television editor

Lucy Lawless will guest-star in another cult television show, The X-Files.

The New Zealand actor, who achieved cult heroine status in the
locally produced Xena: Warrior Princess, will appear in the
long-running science-fiction series on US screens in November. She
will not be seen on local television until next year.

Filming starts in Los Angeles within two weeks. Lawless has few
details about the character and was surprised yesterday that her part
had been announced by the show's producers in trade magazine Variety.

"They keep details very close to the chest. What [show creator] Chris
Carter told me [about the role] is that it's very X-Files: you think
it's one thing and it turns out to be another," Lawless told the
Herald yesterday.

She will appear in the first two episodes - and possibly four - of
the show's new season.

The mother of two said she was a fan of The X-Files but was not keen
to take on another long commitment like Xena, which lasted five years.

"It's not my dream to work 18-hour days and that is what they do in
the States."

Lawless said she had turned down every role since finishing Xena this
year. Then she was approached by Carter while holidaying in Hawaii.

"You do not say 'no' to Chris Carter. He has a tremendous reputation."

Lawless said she was looking forward to working with Gillian
Anderson, who has played agent Dana Scully for eight years.

Hi Guys, I'm back.

This is interesting news to hear. It'll be different to see Lucy Lawless in 'proper' clothes (haha). I think she could possibly play a good part in X-Files.

Yeh, I cant wait! Gabby has always been my fav character of XENA but Lucy is a good actress - love her comedy work!
I can't wait to see what she can bring to the show!

Great news! Lucy is a great actrees, and is going to be interesting see her in a different role from Xena. Looking forward to see her in the X-Files, and wondering how her character will be.

I'm glad to see everyone here is so positive about Lucy being on the X-Files. :star: The official X-Files forum is treating the news like they just learned that Gillian Anderson quit the show and a troupe of trained monkeys are taking her place. *L*

Hmm, I might have been like that at one point, but we're onto the 9th series now, and Im not such the die-hard fan I once was.
Lucy will be a refreshing chance!:D :D

Hey Nic,

The thing which is confusing me is that Lucy is only going to be a guest star on 2 episodes. *L* I could see them being hostile if she were, for example, coming on as yet another new FBI agent who was going to be Scully's new partner or something... but I've never seen them get so hostile over a guest star. It honestly has me baffled.

Personally, I think I'll be watching LL and waiting for her to do her trademark Xena scream, then start kicking some little green (okay grey ;)) alien butt!
:p :p

Really? *L* I guess that's it then. People are so used to associating her with Xena that they can't not. *g* I'm personally curious to see if she uses her native New Zealand accent or an American one. I assume it will be American, but it would be cool if she used her real voice. :D

I'm so excited!

have you her real voice?

it won't be the same tho. i live in new zealand and when watch xena - i can say..ohoh, i've been there.

but with the x files. i ain't been even close to LA (or Vancouver for that matter)

i'm just happy that my home country is being mentioned all the time.

well that was pretty dull
ciao

Lucy Lawless guest stars on X-Files

From the official X-Files site:

Lucy Lawless, known internationally for her character Xena on Xena: Warrior Princess, has signed on for a guest role in The X-Files, appearing in the first two episodes of the show's ninth season, with additional episodes to be determined.

Commenting on the casting of Lawless, Frank Spotnitz said, "We're thrilled to have an opportunity to work with Lucy, whose work we've admired for a long time. We think we've found an interesting and unexpected way to have her join The X-Files family." Details regarding Lawless' character are being closely kept under wraps.

New Zealand native Lawless' breakout role of Lysia in Hercules and the Amazon Women led to her signature role of Xena in three episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Shortly thereafter those episodes led to her own spin-off series, Xena: Warrior Princess, which aired internationally for six years. Her other television credits include guest roles on The Simpsons and Just Shoot Me. She has also been a host of Saturday Night Live.

In recent years Lawless has been named by People Magazine as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World," one of "TV's 40 Most Fascinating Stars" and one of the "25 Most Intriguing People of the Year." The feminist, superhero character Xena was recently named by TV Guide as one of the 50 greatest characters ever on television.

I'm really looking forward to see her in the X-Files. Also it should be interesting to see what the character will be.

Xena Joins X Files

Lucy Lawless plays Shannon McMahlon. In season nine and her character is an ex of Doggett and she makes trouble for Scully.

She was in Dogget's military unit. Is she going to be a regular cast member now?

She was in 2 of the first episodes in season 9. But i have not heard if she is going to continue working on the X Files

I'll be honest, the only reason I started watching x-files AGAIN is because Lucy's in it. Think it's great, refreshing for X-files and Lucy fans to see her in different character., her character is WAY creepier than Xena can get!!, but luv it.
good for Lucy too.
later,
Keph.

Not long now till we brits get to see Lucy Lawless in something other than Xena. Will be interesting to see her in a different character altogether. Few weeks to go till this appears on Sky One.
