What are you working on right now?

Working on the fourth installment of a military SF, and making heavy weather of it. I love working on my stories about a former stripper dumped into a rough edged Galactic culture - fun and I like writing about a touch of romance - but military science fiction pays the bills. Hence, another book about genetically developed soldiers. After a lifetime in uniform I sometimes have to work to generate enthusiasm for the subject, even though a lot of people seem to like it.

Probably get back to it tomorrow, though. Feel like I'm on the right plot track now.

Tried submitting a short story to a magazine and gave up -couldn't muster the willpower to write the author's blurb part that was required. Am taking it as a sign to get back to writing the intergalactic cookery book. Did my fifth live gig last night, and second headline; was good and bad as it meant going on late when the crowd were well 'refreshed'. Went well, apart from one woman who sat up the front shouting 'you're fiddlesticks excrement' repeatedly, tried to engage her but the lights were on with nobody home -great craic otherwise. Now to get back to Jupiter, where Sozman Borkstapple has kidnapped one of the astronauts in the hope of learning the secret of regular non magical physics. It might be a long trip.
 
After a totally blank period of a couple of months in which seriously NOTHING happened in my subconscious at all (I couldn't even summon up the energy to work up any funny but unfinished sketches) I had a vague idea while reading the blurb of a book the other day. At half past four this morning my inner-dialogue woke me up and made me write down two pages of gags based on the idea which still looked funny this afternoon when I looked at them again and rewrote a bit. Watch this space.
 
Not a Space Opera, but a planetary rescue.
I've got 21 chapters, but I had 21 chapters 3 years ago. The book keeps writing itself in my head but I can't seem to get it on to the page.

I've been working on a novel that started out as a solarpunk murder mystery and is quickly turning into something else entirely. Fun to feel the idea evolve and turn into something more substantial, but I'm worried that it's now tonally wrong.
 
I've finished up a novel about a father who has to save his daughter from a goblin cult before they sacrifice her to one of the dragons of the apocalypse under the next full moon.

Now about getting anyone to read it...
 
I'm still editing Giulia vs the Undead Romans (working title!). I recently realised that it's basically a reworking of the Orpheus story, which doesn't make it any less violent or more intelligent. It's a much bigger book than either of the two previous novels, and I'm wondering if it could do with one less subplot or twist. But it's entertaining to be back in Giulia's world again.
 
Working on perfecting my grammar and sentence structure. I have been using my thesaurus and emotion thesaurus to help me in crafting a more meaningful story, (most of the time!) Also, getting back to reading every day.

Sort of at sixes and sevens. I finished off a book I'd been working on - actually I'd given up on it years ago only to return to it every now and then - and pubbed it a couple of weeks ago. And now Farry is out, has 70k new words, a new title - Out Of Darkness - and finally an ending. It's been an epic - not so fantasy - - journey! Now I'm into a new book - Bound - but it's fighting me. Every few days I hit another point where I just don't know where it's going and end up watching the idiot box!!!

Finished off a semi-hard space opera a little while ago, now working on my second novel --this one is a magic realism story set in Medellin Colombia during the 1980s. About 15k words in, still don't really know where its going though.
 
Working on The Tower of Guard, second in the Trouvères series. I have about 33k written, but have major sections plotted and blocked, so I should be making much word soup over the coming weeks. That is, depending on health, holidays, and the vicissitudes of relatives. Life keeps getting in the way of art!
 
I'm nearly there with the third Giulia novel. It's only now that I'm starting to really feel that it works. It's very satisfying to see what was a pretty fragmented story coming together: the pieces start to fit, I spot the continuity errors (I hope), and it functions as a whole. It's been a long and - by writing standards - hard job, but I'm pleased with the results.

Going to restart on my novel after playing around in the 75, 100 and 300 worders as well as dabbling around in the 'writing character emotions' post too. Also, working on a collaboration with another Chrons member.
We all have covid here and have started early treatment too.

We tested soon enough to get the viral meds, but overall, we're just a little tired is all. But my double salted liquorish now tastes like, water...
Thinking of writing a short about it; 'From Colorado to Canada to California and Back Again. A COVID Holiday.' or 'The 4 C's at Sea.'

All in light of course; we knew a few that didn't make it...:confused:
