Im thinking of the cover on the book ive been trying to remember both the author and title to , showing woman space explorer half her body has turned into something that looks like the creature from the black Lagoon. It would be ironic if it was that book .

The first part of what you described sounds like a seventies porno type sci fi - the Pollinators of Eden by John Boyd. The rest is off track.
