Hi, I remember as a child reading about people "viewing" each other rather than seeing them in person. I'd love to re read this. I thought it might have been Asimov or Arthur C Clarke, but nothing rings a bell. Can anyone help please with that very small amount of info?

The Robots of Dawn
The Solarians each live separately on giant estates. They only contact each other by video*
They are looked after by robots.
Asimov

Echoes of E M Forster's The Machine Stops (though it's an underground city that stops working totally different plot)

[*I forget what they did to make little Solarians]

"THE CAVES OF STEEL" was the 1st book with Lij Bailey (sp). THE NAKED SUN was 2nd. And R.Daneel Olivaw was assigned as his partner in both books.

Pipped at the post. :) But I can tell you that, of that series, 'The Naked Sun' is the book you're actually remembering. (The three books have the same two main characters but are set on different planets. 'The Naked Sun' was the one set on Solaria.)

Thanks everyone. I'm logging on to Amazon now to relive my childhood ...
