David Feintuch

born Yonkers, New York: 21 July 1944
died Mason, Michigan: 16 March 2006

David Feintuch was an American author of science fiction and fantasy, an antiques dealer and an attorney.

He is best known for his science fiction series of 7 novels, the Nicholas Seafort Saga, beginning with Midshipman’s Hope (1994). The Nick Seafort series concerns the life of a young cadet on a starship, who rises up through the ranks, in the same way as would an early nineteenth-century planet-bound navy officer, and very similar to the C S Forester's Horatio Hornblower series. In the later volumes he rises to have total power.

He also wrote the fantasy Rodrigo of Caledon duology, The Still (1997) and The King (2002).

I remember reading most of the Nick Seafort series, but that's it. They did get a bit samey and i don't think that i finished the series. I enjoyed what i read but i did find the crushing sense of guilt that Nick was struggling with to be a major factor of the series. It got a bit too much, i think.

The Seafort Saga was well worth reading. :)
