read this some years ago and forgot about most things but the ending where the main characters (human young adults born and raised in this alien planet, who's ancestors came from earth) were trying to escape their colony discover the reason why they are being oppressed: large burrowing creature (kinda like Dune's sand worms) endemic to their planet pooped out gold and the space capitalists want to keep on using the resources for profit
