I like the way they all move off together as a unit. He's clearly been adopted.

I'd like to recommend "Running with Sherman" - Christopher McDougall. All about rescuing a donkey he called Sherman, a lot of donkey behaviour info. He then decides to work on the donkey's mental and physical rehabilitation by training him for a long distance running competition, which recreates prospectors and their burros coming out of the mountains. Lovely book.
