hello there. some years ago, I read an SF story in which a lab., technician takes home to explore more a virus-like intelligent microbe. Tha lab. discovers this, and when the knock on the door comes he gets rid of the evidence, in a panic, by flushing it down the drain. The story evolves as the virus starts to take over the world. I seem to think somewhere in the back of my head it was a translation from a french author, but could be wrong there. seem to think it was in the 1980's that I read it. Shades of All Flesh Is Grass I think... mainly read non-fiction these days, with the odd stuff by Chrisopher Priest. rgds to you all and a happy, healthly and prosperous new year to book readers everywhere. henrymthepainter

Is it "The Clone" by Theodore Thomas?
