Monologues in films (movies)

There is this...
and not from a film but still a great bit of writing and acting.

And there are doubtless umpteen ones by Humphrey Appleby in Yes Minister/Prime Minister... however I wasn't really considering comedy

In my opinion, Charlie Chaplin's speech at the end of The Great Dictator is still the best in the history of cinema. Followed by President Whitmore's speech in Independence Day.

How about the "I believe" monologue from Bull Durham?
It is the "Oh My!" that makes it for me...
and let us not us forget Annie Savoy...

Some good ones mentioned already. Of course there's Joe Pesci's in Goodfellas, and Shakespeare's Richard III opening, which Olivier does very well (albeit paraphrased). One of the best for me is Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday, where he doesn't actually say anything, but his face effectively tells you far more than words ever could. One of the best performances ever.

I'd nominate Wednesday Addams as Pocahontas in Addams Family Values. "The gods of my tribe have spoken. They say 'Do not trust the pilgrims.' ... And for all these reasons, I have decided to scalp you, and burn your village to the ground."
