Hello All,

I am currently trying to create tabletop role-playing games campaigns about a race or races of Divine Mother Goddesses who live in or are trying to create Matriarchal Civilizations Organizations.

A mother goddess is a goddess who represents or is a personification of motherhood. When equated with the Earth or the natural world, such goddesses are sometimes referred to as Mother Earth or as the Earth Mother. The concept is complementary to a "sky father".

I like to create a storyline where the Sky Father the Divine Creator God of all the Universes All Megaverses All Existences is creating a race of Divine Mother Goddesses for a variety of purposes.

Physical Beauty and Mental Charisma scores should be off the charts for these Divine Mother Goddesses.

I am wondering if anyone can introduce any books to me about Races of Divine Mother Goddesses and/or Matriarchal Civilizations Organizations so that I can get inspiration about strong females ruling over many existences, many universes, many worlds or at least ruling over one world.

Something like the Aes Sedai from the World of Time series come to mind.

Please contribute any ideas which you have to this thread and I will come up with my own ideas soon.

@anshar, I've done a fair amount of research around this subject, and I think you might be better off going back to mythology (especially perhaps Hindu) and feminist writings about possible matriarchal societies. Some books that might be worth a look are Watch the North Wind Rise (published in UK as Seven Days in New Crete) by Robert Graves, which is a good stab at how one of these societies might operate; Waking the Moon by Elizabeth Hand; and Sexual Personae by Camille Paglia. I didn't find a lot in fiction. All of these, to some extent, deal with the darker as well as positive aspects of the Great Mother figure, which I personally find more interesting.
 
If you want original sources, then you'll want anything by Marija Gimbutas .

No offence, but those aren't characteristics of Mother Goddesses, but of male fantasy figures. In the real world, Mother Goddesses are both life and death - something to love, but also be terrified of. And this is an example of how they physically looked:

You are right, it is a bit difficult to get in. But it is a gem mine as inspiration sources go in my opinion. I have translated that book into my mother language and that was one of the most interesting experiences of my life. It's a unique book. And a chance to listen to an ollave. (I am saying all this APART from any kind of culture created around the book.) It's a kind of book to pick up read some and forget about it and then pick up in years later and then forget about it...

I read an article recently about Octavia Butler, whose name I recognized but never knew was primarily an SFF author. A lot of her work seems to fit this bill very strongly.
 
Thank you all for reading and responding. Please allow me to further contribute ideas from my own imaginations before responding to all of your wonderful ideas and posts. There are some modifications to the ideas in my first post so please bear with me. The information below is supposed to be background information for my campaigns stories.

In the beginning of time, there exists the Big Birth (Big Bang) which resulted in the First Creations of the First Existences & First Megaverses & First Universes. The Original Creator God "V" Created the Big Birth (Big Bang) but it is hinted that there may even be Original Creations much older than the First Creations.

During the First Creations, the Original Creator God "V" Created multiple races of beings called the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences. But as the eons and ages of the First Creations wear by, the Original Creator God "V" realize that the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences are not evolving in the correct right directions due to maybe morality problems or the lack of Innocence or V-Innocence or something like that.

In fact as the ages and eons wear by, the Original Creator God "V" realize that the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences grew more and more devolved, not just evil, as time grows by, even though the power of the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences grow day by day. The Original Creator God "V" realize that the growth of power must be matched by the growth of evolution in every area of all existences which include the Evolution of Morality, Evolution of Innocence or V-Innocence, Evolution of Energies, even Evolution of Powers, etc.

Thus the Original Creator God "V" decided to Create the Second Creations called "V-Space" which also resulted in the Creations of the Second Existences & Second Megaverses & Second Universes. The Original Creator God "V" Vowed to Create Evolutionary Power Growth based upon the Evolution of Innocence or V-Innocence so as a Second Creations "V-Space" Being evolves especially evolution in the area of Innocence or V-Innocence, the Second Creations "V-Space" Being will also evolve in Evolutionary Power which are designed to counter and defeat the Devolutionary Power of the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences.

During the Second Creations which is also called "V-Space", the finest and most powerful and earliest beings of the Second Creations "V-Space" are called the "GodBodies" which are all male representations and male aspects of the Original Creator God "V" Himself. Just like there are how many table-top role-playing games or different science-fiction/fantasy books or different anime/manga/comics on the market, the Original Creator God "V" Created different "GodBodies" versions of Himself with Different Personalities, Different Powers, Different Types of Attributes, Different Faces, Different Archetypes etc.

One day before or after the start of the Second Creations (the date is not yet determined), the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences decided to rebel against the Original Creator God "V" to attack and consume the Original Creator God "V". In response, the Original Creator God "V" removed all traces of Himself from the First Creations and took refuge in the Second Creations. Then the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences decided to invade the Second Creations in order to search for and attack and consume the Original Creator God "V".
 
The Original Creator God "V" realized that the Secret to Counter & Totally Defeat the Devolutionary Power of the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences is not through his "GodBodies" as their Male Innocence or Male "V-Innocence" is not the Right Frequency to Counter & Defeat the Devolutionary Power of the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences. In fact as time goes by, the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences seem to grow more and more in power to defeat and overwhelm the Male Innocence or Male "V-Innocence" of the Second Creations. As a result, the Second Creations grow more and more corrupted by the day.

In response to this, the Original Creator God "V" decided to bring selected "GodBodies" out of the Second Creations to Create New Creations called the Third Creations. Knowing all the "GodBodies" are Male, the Original Creator God "V" decided to Create Female Versions of Himself called the Original Mother Goddesses.

In the Second Creations, all the "GodBodies" are the equivalent of the Sky-Fathers the Divine Creator Gods in their respective created Dimensions, Stars, Planets, Suns, Galaxies, Cosmos, Universes, etc. Yes there are Divine Mother Goddesses Created by the GodBodies but there are rarely Divine Mother Goddesses Created by the Original Creator God "V" Himself. If anything the Divine Mother Goddesses Created by the Original Creator God "V" have much lesser powers than the "GodBodies" Divine Creator Gods.

It is the system of things to Create Weaker Females or Females Weaker than Males in the Second Creations. But it is only after major corruptions took place in the Second Creations when the Original Creator God "V" realized His Mistakes. The Keys to Defeating the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences is by Creating Female Original Mother Goddesses, Female Versions of the Original Creator God "V".

So the Original Creator God "V" decided to flip things around in the Third Creations. All the "GodBodies" underwent the most rigorous testings and most severe cultivations to see which "GodBodies" can assist the Original Creator God "V" in the Creation of the Third Existences and more importantly the Creations of the Most Powerful Most Beautiful Female Original Mother Goddesses. Selected "GodBodies" who graduated from such rigorous severe testing cultivations are called "V-Imaginations" and together, they left the Second Creations to Create the Third Creations.

The Second Creations are considered to be Male. But the Third Creations are considered to be Female.

The Original Creator God "V" decided to make the Original Mother Goddesses the most powerful beings in all of existences with each Original Mother Goddess even multiple times more powerful than all the "GodBodies", all the "V-Imaginations", all the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences combined.

So One Original Mother Goddess will be more than enough to take care of all Original Creator God "V"s' enemies and problems at once.

But that is something extremely secretive about the idea of the Original Mother Goddess which the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences do not know or comprehend. Something some secret which even the highest "GodBodies" or "V-Imaginations" secretly fear.
 
Ever since the start of the First Creations and the start of the Second Creations, the Original Creator God "V" has partook in experiments where the Original Creator God "V" has Co-Created New First Creations with the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences or where the Original Creator God "V" has Co-Created New Second Creations and New Third Creations with the "GodBodies" or "V-Imaginations".

These Co-Creations are meant as hidden experiments or hidden blueprints for the Original Creations. However, the Original Creator God "V" realize that these Co-Creations in the First Creations are severely lacking in powers and evolutions compared to the Second Creations which are also lacking compared to the Third Creations.

Because the Original Creator God "V" did not engage in "Loving Sexual Creations" with His "GodBodies", "V-Imaginations" and First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences. At this point in time, I can only say that the Original Creator God "V" only engaged in Yang-Yang versions of Creations with His "GodBodies", "V-Imaginations" and First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences, most of which are not Females.

So what happened is that the Original Creator God "V" have been planning for zillions of eons and zillions of ages to Co-Create New Original Creations with His Creations which include the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences, GodBodies or V-Imaginations, etc. but the Original Creator God "V" has continuously failed to Create successful Co-Created New Original Creations with his First or Second or even Third Creations.

One major reason for these failures is that all his most powerful Creations like the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences, GodBodies or V-Imaginations, etc. are all male and there is a conflict in energetic frequencies between male and male.

I am drawing my ideas from the ideas of Eastern Daoism and also basic philosophies and psychologies from cultures around the world. I mean just look at how males in this world like to compete with males everywhere for females. A male's penis is designed to fertilize the female's vagina. Males will always fight with other males thus yang will always be incompatible with yang. Yang will only be compatible with Yin.

This is why the Original Creator God "V" has decided to Create Female Versions of Himself called the Original Mother Goddesses who are the Most Powerful Original Yin Energies in All Creations to Withstand His Original Yang.

Original Yang vs Original Yin.

In essence, the Original Creator God "V" had tried to Create more and more Original Yang in His GodBodies and V-Imaginations as more Creations more versions of Himself but that has largely landed in failure to counter and defeat the devolutionary powers of the First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences who are considered to be Primordial Yang.

So there are two reasons to Create more and more Original Yin in more and more Original Mother Goddesses. One reason is to use the Infinitely Powerful Original Yin to Defeat and Conquer the Primordial Yang First Ancients or Ancient Intelligences. Another reason is to overwhelm and control the Super Infinitely Powerful Original Yang with the Infinitely Powerful Original Yin.
 
Whoah! Hold your horses - we don't need all your background material for your writing, and you don't need to explain everything that you're doing!

However, if you are serious about creating a cosmology it may be worth looking at classic texts on this - for Greek/Roman that means Hesiod, Apollodorous, and Ovid's Metamophoses.

Hi can't I share my background materials for my writings with this forum? I was hoping that members of this forum can look at my writings and give me more ideas on what to read based on the ideas which I have given.

I have been working on this campaign story for an extremely long time so I really hope you can be kind enough to give me the opportunity to share my ideas with others!

Once you've reached 30 posts you can put up a piece of writing in the Critiques section.

However, there's little point discussing your background notes because at the end of the day it's not about your ideas but how you write them that will either engage or fail to engage people.

If you have specific questions about specific issues then you're welcome to ask - but I doubt other members will be rushing to read thousands of words worth of notes at this point. :)
 
We allow a certain amount of latitude for members to outline the thinking behind their stories when they're asking for help, but to be frank when most of us are confronted with 3 consecutive posts amounting to 1500 words of close type we tend to switch off! It might be otherwise for players of RPG, but even there I think more of an actual story is required to keep people's attention -- for myself, I only made it to the end of your third paragraph, looked to see how much there was, and basically gave up.

This kind of stuff is really interesting to you, because you've invested so much in it. For us, coming fresh to it, it's never going to be quite so engrossing, and it's not helped when every other word has a capital letter stressing how important it is.

Even if you wanted us to pick holes in your cosmology, to help make it watertight, we wouldn't really need all this, and since you're asking to be pointed towards reading materials, there's definitely no reason for us to know all the intricacies of your worldbuilding. Have a look at the books already suggested, and doubtless they will lead to other books and so on.

(By the way, I know these notes are only rough ideas, but do think again about phrases like "A male's penis is designed to fertilize the female's vagina" -- quite apart from the issue of "designed" as opposed to "evolved" if at that point you're talking about real life, you might want to check your understanding of fertilisation and its meaning.)

Anyhow, I hope the books suggested help you. Good luck with the RPG.
