After really enjoying your name, I was looking forward to watching another film by Makoto Shinkai.

The artwork was impressive, but otherwise it was just an hour of moping.

Really didn't work for me, which was a shame - especially as the long train journey in the first part was so well done, as was the satellite launch in the second.

You have to look at these films in a different way, Brian, a non-Western way.
They tell stories differently. More "longeurs" which aren't longeurs at all.
5 Centimetres Per Second - which I re-watched just before xmas - is one of the all-time greats for me. Tremendously moving story, beautifully animated!
