If I were to watch one of the Star Trek series' do you think I should start with the original, or The Next Generation?
 
There's a case to be made for starting at the beginning, but don't get put off by the 1960s attitudes and special effects. If you find yourself inclined to give up on those, give TNG a try. If those have too much 1980s after-school special about them, there's always Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise. Something for everyone in there somewhere.
