(Found) Searching for a two sequence book from the 1980's

This was a fantasy two book sequence. There was, in the second book, a heroine called aerin fire hair. The second book was actually a prequel. The first book was about a how woman who had come to a new home. She was kidnapped by a leader of a tribe who could use a 'gift' to help him kidnap her. The horses were very important and were as much a fighter in battles as they were. Their eyes turned silver when strong emotions were in force. She was taught to fight and stop the enemy. This is about as much as I remember.
