John Glenn, July 18, 1921 - December 8, 2016

He was my hero growing up - the first man in space, and so many accompishments since. Rest in peace, John Glenn.

No, not that either. First USan to ORBIT. Alan Shepard was first USan in space. AFAIK, Glenn was also the oldest person in space. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that he was the last of the Mercury 7. I'm a little uncomfortable with being too hagiographic though. He was also a member of the Keating 5, albeit the least culpable. With respect to Glenn, the Senate Ethics Committee's final conclusion was totally correct. It was more surprising that McCaine emerged undamaged. For the other 3, it ended their political careers.

Apparently my brother worked on Discovery when John Glenn went up for the last time. I didn't know that. But then, my brother's rocket scientist career is all highly classified. :D
