Then there's Jean Toomer's Cane

I mistakenly put Toomer down as "as-yet-unmentioned" in my last post but you had mentioned him. Sorry about that. And thanks for emphasizing him, as serendipity struck again and I was recently able to pick up Cane for fifty cents(!) at my local store. :)

It may be a while before I do, but I should reread it. It's been ... Rats. I don't have enough fingers and toes.

Anyone else read RK Narayan?
The Malgudi stories are very good.
 
Have read (and taught) Narayan's The Guide, but no short fiction that I recall.
