He leaps around, fights bad guys and is about to celebrate his seventieth birthday, so you may have thought that Gotham City would allow the caped crusader to have a day off, but that is probably not going to happen.
It was in 1939 when Bob Kanes comic hero first appeared to clean up the streets of crime and yet now the Batman is a film, TV and comic book star there is hardly anyone in the world who has not heard of the Dark Knight.
This is a significant landmark in hero history; Batman is the only real competition to that other hero Superman, who happens to be just one year older.
It is expected that around the US and indeed the world various celebrations will be taking place to honour Batman and for what he has done for film, TV and comics.
