Resident Evil is all set for another movie in the famous survival-horror franchise which began scaring folks on computers and consoles in 1996.

The first film didn’t roll out until 2002, mind you, but since then there have been another three, culminating in last year’s Resident Evil: Afterlife.

While the movies have been consistently panned by critics, they’ve done fairly well at the box office, and we must admit we’ve enjoyed them too. Works of art they’re not, but good entertainment value is certainly there.

And even if some gamers feel that the Resident Evil mythos isn’t sufficiently incorporated, an enjoyable action story is.

So the news that a fifth flick is definitely on the cards with Milla Jovovich playing Alice is good to hear, at least from our point of view.

Crave Online reports that Paul W.S. Anderson is also back on board helming. Anderson directed the first and last films, and wrote/produced for the middle two.

Resident Evil: Retribution, as the fifth instalment is thought to be called, should be released in just over a year’s time. It’ll be set in Japan, apparently, and will bring back Jill Valentine and introduce Leon Kennedy, amongst others.

Valentine was in the second and fourth films, played by Sienna Guillory (also seen in Eragon) who will again reprise her role next year.

Leon Kennedy, the protagonist in the Resident Evil 4 game, hasn’t yet been in the flicks and will be an addition RE fans will doubtless keenly await.
