goblins in fantasy literature...

I'll just have to plead (not so) early senility here.... Yes, Gardner's Svart Alfar and Lyos Alfar are, of course, descended from the northern European tradition of Svartalfe and Lichtalfe (if I am remembering my terms correctly), and so they would be quite closely related; and yes, the Svart Alfar most definitely would fit as goblins in the usual sense....

I would also vote highly for these books -- superb examples of fantasy, "young adult" or no....
 
Is my memory failing me, or does Raymond Feist also use Svart Alfar and Lyos Alfar as names and concepts?
