Pillars of the earth is a great books spanning 50 years in 12 century Europe.

And as was stated in another thread, Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles for Scotland and the world around the time of Henry VIII. Starts with The Game of Kings.

yeah, i checked it out. never noticed it was there before. they had some great thoughts over there, and i ended up with pillars of the earth by follet because of some of their recs. also got three books by bernie cornwell. another good week of reading ahead....
