6:30PM 21 September the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy begins a new series on BBC Radio 4, with another series billed for Spring 2005.

These are going to be based around the last three books of the six book trilogy: Life, The Universe And Everything; So Long And Thanks For All The Fish and Mostly Harmless and features most of the original cast.

I'm sure they will be popular and it comes with good credentials if you read that article, but will it be any good??

I will probably listen to it, but I'm not so sure.

They original radio play was better than the books. The books got progressively worse. The TV show was dire. And the film, if it ever surfaces does not excite me.

It was unusual in the late 70's to have comedy sci-fi. Now it is commonplace. (I'm thinking of 'Red Dwarf', 'Mork and Mindy', 'Third Rock from the Sun' that all came later.) So, these are very different times.

Those later books just aren't as good, but on the other hand, the first book was edited from all the best bits of the first series of the radio play, so who knows really?

The Quandary Phase

Quandary Phase Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy (So Long and Thanks for all the Fish) begins on Tuesday 3rd May on BBC Radio 4 at 6:30PM.

As usual it will be available via the BBC Listen Again service.

There is even a trailer for it http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/
As confusing as the trailer sounds, it is already far better than the book!
