Now don't freak out - I am not suggesting that this idea is in production or anything!
I was trawling through the Aint it Cool message boards and I cam across an argument over whether this would work, what the subject matter would be and whether you would watch.

There is much speculation over whether Lucas had ever even conceived of Episodes 7, 8 and 9, but it seems unlikely to me that after Episode Three is done and dusted the franchise will go back to the books and video games series that it was between Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Lucas has gone on the record to say that he will not be making any more films, but perhaps this might imply that he would be content to have more films made, even if his name wasn't on the director's chair.

The franchise could go in a different direction - TV. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one example of a successful leap from the big to little screen.
Of course the Star Wars series is very different, but would you watch if they did this? What format do you think it would follow? What stories could it tell?

I think it could be successful if it followed a different set of characters from those we are already familiar with. I have not read any of the books, but I gather that their storylines spread out tangentially from the Lucas's original conception - surely more than enough material for another story to be told on-screen.

What do you think?

I've read q a few of the post-ROTJ books, including the New Jedi Order (NJO) books.

Now the NJO books in particular are very dark and angsty and, (slight spoiler)
quite a few main canon and book-canon characters die
so I've stopped reading them for now.

A lot of post ROTJ has been dictated by these, but there would still be room for working things into TV shows.

One thing, what would it focus on? The Rogue Squadron type? The Jedi adentures? Bounty Hunters? The Skywalker Dynasty? It could be one of a hundred different things- maybe even the Ewoks again ;)

The budgets would mean less of the special effects, but with good story-lines and characters, it could be very good indeed.

I think I would watch it, if it was well-scripted and had good plots/characters.

Ewoks! I don't think I can imagine anything worse ;)

Less special effects - I am not sure how restricting that might be, after all if a tv series was made in close conjunction with Lucas's own effects house then they might be able to bring in some pretty exciting stuff without spending ridiculous amounts of money.
Fox has reportedly spent an awful lot of money making Joss Whedon's new show FireFly, so evidently the money could be found, and I am sure they would be falling over themselves to make it, if the opportunity arose.

I am planning to read some of the books at some point in the future, but I think I would like to see some stories which are at least a generation removed from the end of "Jedi". Bringing in characters that we are already very familiar with might be a big mistake in terms of fan reaction.

I would definitely watch it - how could I not? I think there is a huge potential there to tell some great stories...

I would watch it too.

Can I just add that although GL says that Ep III will be the last film, he hasn't denied (to my knowledge) that he wrote a script for Ep VII.

I think the best bet would be something slightly removed from main-character canon at least. The continuing adventures of Luke, Han, Leia etc would probably not be too good an idea. After all, there's only so much you can take!

I think a good example, and one of the books I liked the most, was I, Jedi, but ATM I forget the author. There's such a proliferation of books: X-Wing, Jedi, Bounty Hunters, that it would be to tread on toes... or to convert some of it to TV...

But such it the size of the universe that somebody could write an exciting new angle, apart from the main arc...

I think it may, eventually, take this direction. If only purely for the selling-power of the name. It would be a big draw LOL!

I read somewhere before TPM:

Lucas realised this was a far bigger story, one that would require three trilogies....

So he knew that there would be an after-story. Whether it will be made...

hmm i have read the books so i have a good idea what they could do a tv series about. and in my opinion i dont think that it would do well, one episode would be like 3 hours.

i would say dont do it, let us keep our Star Wars universe in the movies and books. but if they make one i will watch it jsut to see what its like;):rolly2:
