The two-hour season premiere of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" gave UPN some of its best ratings ever for a Tuesday night; the second-largest audience in its five-year existence, (7.65 million); and set a record for ratings for viewers aged 18 to 49.
"This number won't go on for the rest of the season, but clearly we now have a foot-hold at 8 p.m. on two nights of the week," said UPN's Dean Valentine about "Buffy" and the new "Star Trek" show "Enterprise".
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon told Variety he was "pretty damn thrilled" about Tuesday's success and said that the good news is helping his cast gear up for the latest "Buffy" experiment: a musical episode.
Variety also reports that "Buffy's" premiere managed to out-rate any night of the WB's programming ever in important groups such as adults 18-34 and 18-49.
