Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian

If they do The Madalorian then they have to explain a lot that goes around on being one. I also hope they don't forget explaining the Dark Sabre, Mandalorian Wars, the Mandalorian honour codes, the warrior castes, the armour, the ships and the ability to fly (with a rocket pack).

Of course, they belong to the old EU and are no longer canon. But until something better comes along, they remain my canon.

There appears to be a lot to be pleased about with this series. They certainly have some heavy hitters with the directing team. I wonder how much of Star Wars 1313 will make it into this production?

We really don't know because all we saw about it was around 2 minutes. And a little bit more in the Clone Wars series final season. I have images saved from it in the other computer (which under a maintenance after graphics card let out the blue smoke). Most likely this will be the best reference outside the concept art and unseen development papers/production on the 1313.
 
Wasn't Star Wars 1313 the Boba Fett prequel game? If that's the case, I don't think the show will have anything to do with it (different era, different character). Or are you referring to something else I don't know about?

I kind of hope the show will have a Wanted Dead or Alive vibe. I was really looking forward to a Western-like Boba Fett movie directed by James Mangold (this project is now on hold but who knows? It might be resuscitated by Disney if this show is successful).
 
I’m sooooo disappointed.

My Star Wars fandom has been plagued by astonishment and bemusement at the fan obsession with Boba Fett. First of all I thought he was unremarkable when I saw him as a kid, and also as an adult find his death embarrassing for someone with his reputation.

Cut to the prequels and reinvent Boba as the cooler Jango. I can get on board with it but feel it’s Lucas scratching that itch of his that compels him to connect everything - fatuously.

Then we have Clone Wars and a preponderance of episodes on the holier-than-thou Mandalorians and their unoriginal clannishness. Even as a Maul fanboy these arcs bored me.

Then, then (!) Sabine’s whole arc in Rebels focuses on the Mandalorian heritage.

No. More. Mandalorian. Nonsense.

Please; it’s an entire universe, can’t we have something a little more experimental and original?

To each their own. But before the Clone Wars nonsense (yeah, it was nonsense), there was already a lot of content out there about the Mandalorians. They became a thing in the 90s thanks to the Dark Lords of the Sith comics. The Boba Fett myth was expanded upon in Dark Empire, one of the best EU stories out there (in my opinion). The novels penned by Karen Traviss and more recent material including the games and comics called Knights of the Old Republic all had a lot to say about the Mandalorians and expanded upon their culture to the point of inventing a language and recipes. I'm not saying this makes it great, I'm saying there's an audience for it out there, like it or not, and Disney has to pander to it too.

The haters can just ignore the show and get back to their regular programming, right?

Come, now. We're 10 movies and 2 cartoon series in now and so far all we've gotten was Empire vs Rebels again and again and again (sure, sometimes they change their names). The only film that has tried to venture a little out of the beaten path so far was Solo, and yet it still relied on one of less than ten major players of the SW universe. Talk about focusing on the tip of the iceberg.

We don't even know what this show will be. The character wears a Mandalorian armour, okay. Is he/she a Mandalorian? Maybe, maybe not. They might be known as 'The Mandalorian' but be something else entirely (fallen Jedi, farmer out for revenge, blablabla). As far as we know, the Fetts can't be in it (one is already very dead at this stage, the other must be at the very least presumed dead). Nothing says the show will be about the Mandalorians as a race or culture.

What we know? It's a show about a gunslinger doing stuff in the outer rim, on those little backwater worlds that we've never seen, far from the influence of the Empire and the Skywalker clan. It's a departure from the boring SW routine if ever I saw one.

So fingers crossed. It might be everything you want it to be. Experimental and original. Or it will be a turd, or anything in between. No way to know until it's released.

Let's not forget we have at least two other trilogies coming up (one from Rian Johnson *shivers* and one from the creators of the Game of Thrones TV series). Let's see how 'experimental and original' these get. Plus, I'm sure, a lot of other projects have yet to be unveiled. There'll be more than enough for everybody.

It WIP film title was Fett, now it's the Mandalorian. I suspect it means not much to a lot of people. You can expect Mandalorians to make somehow into the Live TV series (not cartoon).

The game will make its formal debut at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles June 5-7. As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. Disney has revealed the first look and directors for its “Star Wars” streaming TV series “The Mandalorian.”

Dave Filoni, who has worked on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels,” will direct the first episode of the series. “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, “Dope’s” Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow (“Jessica Jones”) will direct additional episodes.

As previously announced, Jon Favreau will write and executive produce the series. The plot details were first revealed on Wednesday, with Favreau teasing “The Mandalorian” on Instagram.

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe,” read his post, in the style of a “Star Wars” opening crawl. “The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Favreau is executive producing the show, which is being developed for Disney’s as-yet untitled streaming service, along with Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

News that Disney was developing the live-action series was first revealed by CEO Bob Iger in March. It’s one of several projects in the works for the growing “Star Wars” universe at the studio.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi and More to Direct ‘Star Wars’ Live-Action TV Series

So, this is the Live Action TV series and not a movie. This series is set between the Return of Jedi and the new trilogy, possibly shadowing the events happening in the SW Resistance.
 
With the first live-action Star Wars series currently being filmed, a variety of images have surfaced that tease what fans can expect from the adventure. New photos from Star Wars: The Mandalorian confirm that Stormtroopers will make an appearance in the series at some point.

"The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," says the series' official synopsis.

What makes all of these details fascinating is how Stormtroopers will factor into the show's plot and its "outer reaches of the galaxy" locale. One possibility is that, in the aftermath of the Empire's destruction, former Imperials took to the far corners of the galaxy to regroup and eventually return to prominence as The First Order.

Another possibility is that, after the Galactic Empire was destroyed, former Imperials were sent into hiding as to avoid having to pay for their crimes, leading former soldiers to stick to the shadowy regions of the galaxy where they wouldn't be as easily identified. Fans saw similar themes be explored in Star Wars Rebels, which featured former Clone Troopers seeking a life of isolation upon the realization of the horrible deeds they carried out under Palpatine's orders.

The set photos don't show the troopers with their helmets on, which could also mean that these aren't actually former members of the Empire, but rather individuals who stole the protective equipment to more safely carry out their deeds.

Fans will find out what The Mandalorian has in store when it lands on Disney's new streaming platform sometime in 2019.

Police are investigating the set of Jon Favreau's new Star Wars show after reports of an equipment theft were made.

According to a report from The Blast, the set of The Mandalorian was compromised when expensive equipment from the camera department went missing, and Lucasfilm is worried that a missing memory card could lead to some secretive details about the show being released.

According to The Blast, the items were stolen from the studio at Manhattan Beach, where production is currently taking place, and the dominant theory is that they were stolen while the set was dark overnight.

This is the first major setback for the Star Wars series, which was announced to be launching as part of Disney's new streaming service. It is the first live-action Star Wars series from the franchise, and it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm have high hopes for it considering the talent they've assembled.

Favreau is serving as executive producer and writer on the The Mandalorian, and he'll be assisted by some big name directors behind the lens. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is helming an episode, as is Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.

The first episode of the series is being directed by Lucasfilm Animation legend Dave Filoni, making the leap to live-action after show running Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

The series is set after the fall of the Empire in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but before the rise of the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's following a "lone gunfighter," presumably the titular Mandalorian, as they navigate the outer reaches of space and delve into the galaxy's criminal underworld.

"I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement to announce the series. "Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base."

I don't know anything about him. I've not ventured into Game of Thrones as of yet, but I hear good things.

@Phyrebrat - Yeah, we've had a lot of content about them already, but thankfully it sounds like it will take place in new locations we haven't seen before. The outer reaches should provide a lot of potential to work with, even if the lead is a Mandalorian.

I'm still holding out for a view into the Chiss Ascendancy.
