So, I've never actually played this series (old PC games intimidate me). My exposure comes from The Spoony Experiment's series of videos covering each game in the series. It's basically the prototype series for the RPG genre, and it's impressive how much thought went into elements like moral choices even compared to today's games.

While EA ended up owning the franchise and developer, the series' creator Richard Garriot is working on a spiritual successor called Shroud of the Avatar, and I'm interested to see how it holds up.
