Aliens Create Human Race novel

I read a novel in the mid eighties about two alien brothers who are teenagers by their species reckoning. They land on prehistoric Earth and engineer a tribe of apes that develop into Homo sapiens. Thousands of years later they have to prevent the destruction of Earth by the potential progeny of a human. They also have to create an afterlife space for Heaven and Hell. Their names are Brinn and Colu.

Thank you, Evil Overlord! You have won my undying loyalty! That was indeed the book I read lo those many years ago. Another search - what about a novel about a genetic engineer who messes up the human race by creating human/deer hybrid females with no digestive systems? "_'s Folly" or something along those lines (Peterkin's Folly? - that is what it is like but I can't get it right - it's rough getting old!)
