Sci Fi book with planet of deadly fungi

The story is about people living in a dome or protected environment. They have migrated from Earth, which they are trying to locate. Outside the dome are fungi and which is very deadly to the humans, as the spores find a host to grow on the humans. People make a living by harvesting the fungi for various uses. The hero(sorry don't remember his name) has special abilities and he is the only one who is born on Earth.

I'm pretty sure there was such a fungus-covered world involved. If I recall aright, there were intelligent fungal lifeforms involved, too.
