Does anyone know the difference between the Normal Hobbit and The Annotated Hobbit?

Yes, heavily annotated, with bits of biographical information, places, and quotations from the earlier version of The Hobbit as parallel text to show where Tolkien revised the novel after writing LotR, and again (as I recall) after both had become so popular in the 1960s. Well worth getting and reading for any serious Tolkien enthusiast, it helps to see this book in connection with his life's work, as well.

A substantial chunk I'd say. But then, you don't have to read all of it and you can choose to just stick with the story if you wish. However, people who generally choose to by annotated versions, generally want to read all the extra pieces of information. Makes for interesting reading actually, especially if you're not reading it for the first time and are familiar with the flow of the tale.
