Thud! is the sound that we 'hear' at the start of the book, as a troll club hits a deep-down dwarf.

And that sets events off nicely in this book. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved the book. But the humour of books such as Guards! Guards! has gone. But in its place is a humour that, while it doesn't make as many appearances, is just as good.

I particularly liked the interaction of Angua and the vampire lance-constable Salacia (or plain Sally) when they are in the dwarf mine. I also like the conversation between Drumknott and the Patrician after Vimes leaves the office.

Im treading a thin line between not telling you anything and bursting out and telling you all of it, but then you wouldn't buy/borrow/steal the book and read it.

All I can tell you is: read this book. Its got humour.

Terry Pratchett has done it again.
