Ty Corey Franck
pen names: James S. A. Corey (with Daniel Abraham).

born Portland, Oregon: 18 May 1969

Ty Frank is an American author of science fiction, fantasy and horror, screenwriter, RPG designer and television producer.

His first published work was Audience (2006) in Intergalactic Medicine Show. This was co-authored with Daniel Abraham under the joint pseudonym James S. A. Corey, as has been almost all of his fiction.

Frank is best known for co-authoring the 9 book and 9 novella long, The Expanse series (co-authored with Daniel Abraham under the pseudonym James S. A. Corey) beginning with Leviathan Wakes (2011). The Expanse novels have been adapted into a TV series with both Franck and Abraham serving as writers and producers.

The Expanse is set in a future where humanity has colonized most of the Solar System thanks to the Epstein Drive, which provides continuous acceleration. The series is set within the Solar System and includes real locations like Ceres, Eros, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, Titania around Uranus, and settlements on Mars and Luna (the Moon).

He wrote the Star Wars novel Honor Among Thieves (2014) (co-authored with Abraham as James S. A. Corey).

The Captive's War series, beginning with The Mercy of Gods (2024) (co-authored with Abraham as James A. A. Corey) is a new trilogy inspired by the Book of Daniel.

Franck has also served as a personal assistant to George R. R. Martin, has written Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series (2014), and written for Martin's Wild Cards universe.

He and Daniel came up with a great series, and while I can nitpick that the show wasn't like the books, it did do a good enough job to let it slide.

The Expanse is one of my all time best SF series, both as the books and the TV adaption. They are different, but the TV adaptation holds true to the essence of the books and the acting (I thought) was excellent. The story is a slow burn, much more about the machinations of the hierarchy of this future world. That may be a negative for those looking for an action packed fast moving plot. For readers (and viewers) interested in political manipulations, class wars, and alien intrigue in a not so distant future, The Expanse will deliver.
