Joel Rosenberg was a Canadian American author of science fiction, fantasy and mysteries. He also published hand gun safety non-fiction text books and was gun advocate and a gun training instructor. His first published fiction was Like the Gentle Rains (1982), in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction magazine.

He is best known for his portal fantasy series, The Guardians of the Flame, beginning with The Sleeping Dragon (1983), and running to 10 novels.

He is also known for D'Shai (1991) and the sequel, Hour of the Octopus (1994).

His Keepers of the Hidden Ways trilogy makes heavy use of Norse mythology.

His Mordred's Heirs series, is an alternate fantasy history, where Mordred defeated King Arthur, establishing the Pendragon Dynasty.
