Is There Any Story or Novel Like This Out Yet?

I had an idea for a premise of a story, but I'm not going to write it if there is a similar one. It would feature an online "troll" who metamorphoses into a literal ugly troll from Norse mythology/folklore due to a sentient online curse. I know that (awful?) movie Beastly is about this (and, of course, the novel on which it's based) is sort of like that, and curses like this are common in dark and/or romantic fantasy (there would be no romance in my story), but has it ever involved trolls in particular, to your knowledge?

I seem to recall seeing an indie book that's somewhat along those lines except I think it's litRPG. Like Harpo said though, just do it your own way. Plenty of stories start off with the same or similar concept, but execute it in very different ways.

Just did a little internet searching, and yup, I remembered correctly. It was a litRPG series by S.L. Rowland called Sentenced to Troll.

Still, loads of room to go in your own direction with that idea!

There is nothing new under the sun. It doesn't matter if you think it's original, someone out there is going to think it isn't. And someone else is going to encounter the idea for the first time in their lives. We call these "young readers".

If the story moves you, then write it. It's the only thing you actually control.

Someone who metamorphises into something that resembles how he is behaving? This has been done a number of times. Obviously specifically 'online troll' will be less frequent due to the fact that they have only been around for a short period of time.

But as has been said, if you are looking to write a truly unique story, forget it. You can omly write variations on a theme. Obviously there are differing shades of originality; a story about Barry Trotter attending Bogwarts school of wizardry just won't do. But the likelihood is that whatever you write will have its own uniqueness.

Probably a good rule of thumb is to Google the premise of your story in a single sentence. The results of your search will give you a good idea as to how original it is.
