Sekrit Santa 2024

Hi folks.

Just a quick reminder - the final date for joining in with this year's Sekrit Santa is November 9th. Including today that gives you just 5 days to sign up.

Be swift, be subtle, be sublime: don't be sorry.

Disaster!

I've been working at my entry all morning and finally got it down to a well honed piece at 90 words!

"Done it!" I declared "90 words!"

"90?" says Mrs Mosaix. "A new challenge?"

Realisation dawned. I can't possible cut 15 words from the thing.

Good job Mrs Mosaix was here, I was on the verge of posting. :(

So, I'm in - at 75 words!
I can't see the joins; a very neat and effective bit of writing.

Your previous message was another example of good quality storytelling. It's a pity you can't use it for this challenge, because now you can't use it for any other. That's right, isn't it? Every entry has to be new, not been published before?

I'm not sure if this is a genuine query, but in case it is, if someone wanted to repeat post a previous story from the 75s which fits with the new theme and genre, there's nothing in the rules stopping it, though it rather defeats the object of the exercise! However, there couldn't have been any earlier explanation of the story, such as some of us do after voting, where we say what the inspiration was or what the plot was, since that would breach the rules.

And using a 75 entry and expanding it for a later 300 is fine, but not vice versa.

@mosaix .... What Did You Expect? .... This is a story about pets, or maybe it's a parable about something else.

@AnRoinnUltra .... The Intergalactic Affinity of Flomp Tabernacle .... This is a story whose depth is belied by it's length. I find it to be provocative.

FYI, re. @AnRoinnUltra's story: recent field observations have revealed that animals sometimes keep pets. A troop of monkeys in a South American jungle were sharing their lives with an adult of a smaller breed of monkey, giving it food, grooming it, cuddling it, playing with it, protecting it... The researchers had only seen this a very few times before, so it's rare, but it happens. They guessed that the smaller monkey had been found when it was very young (possibly even having been stolen!) and had grown up with the troop. It did not appear to be attached to any particular family, but rather to the troop as a whole; so they concluded that it was a pet rather than an adopted family member.

@johnnyjet .... In Faithful Service of His Master .... This is a story that makes you go, What? Oh, that's clever.

@chrispenycate .... Heavy petting .... This is a story that shows that somethings remain more or less the same across the generations.

@genelewis .... Caring for your exotic pet .... This is a story which reminds me that some words can be stretched to unheard of extremes and still be fully understandable.
